The Best Interior Design Trends for 2019

The new year is in full swing, and with many of us trying to stick with our resolutions, why not look at setting some goals for your home? With a whole year ahead of us, so much can be accomplished with the design of our homes. In 2018, we saw botanical prints, artisan textures, metallics and marble, but each year tends not to just to bring new, but bolder trends.

In this blog, I have taken a look at some of the top interior trends which can easily be implemented in your home, as well as the ways you can incorporate them.

Vintage Style Lighting

People often forget the importance of lighting, as having the right type for each room can change the whole look of the space. Vintage lighting which has an industrial twist has taken over homes during the last couple of years, and it doesn’t seem like this trend is going anywhere! Industrial style lights work well with most rooms such as bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms as well as bathrooms, and can completely transform a space from being poorly lit to cheerful.

Before you commit, you should consider which type of light will complement the space; do you require a wall light, bare bulb or pendant? This type of lighting can really change the whole feel of a room.

Dark Kitchens

Darker kitchens popped up during 2018 as well as darker coloured walls, but we will see a lot more of this in 2019. Instead of bright, white kitchen cabinets, we will see kitchens embrace darker colours such as navy and black. However, it is important to remember that darker colours can make a space appear smaller, so if your kitchen is on the smaller side, it wouldn’t be a good idea to have the whole room dark, so you should think about how you can implement these darker tones.

If you are lucky enough to have a large kitchen, you can re-paint your cabinets or even a feature wall. If your kitchen is smaller, you can opt for darker coloured appliances for a subtler twist.

Spiced Honey

Each year, Dulex chooses their colour of the year, and this year it is spiced honey. This tone is a warm amber tone, which has been inspired by the beauty and versatility of honey. This shade can be soothing or calming, cosy or vibrant, depending on what other colours and designs you join it with.

This colour can be the perfect shade for those who want to add a touch of warmth to a room and can work really well with powder blues, soft pinks and even natural greens; spiced honey is the perfect colour to refresh your home.

Geometric Patterns

Towards the end of 2018, we saw a surge of geometric patterns on walls and soft furnishings. However, this year we are sure to see this pattern in a more dramatic way. With this trend, we will see bigger shapes and bolder colours in any room of the house. This pattern can be easily implemented in any room of the house as well as with any colour.

Matte Finishes

Last year we saw matte finishes on everything from beauty products to cars, and due to technological advancements, it has made matte finishes all the more alluring and possible. Forget about high-gloss finishes, and instead opt for a more beautiful matte one instead!

So, there you go, the top interior design trends for 2019. Hopefully, this blog has inspired you on how you can work these trends into your home. Will you be trying any of these? Let me know in the comments below!
