I’ve been itching to get this skin related blog post live ever since I had this exciting treatment done, but I wanted to wait until I had returned from my holiday (and caught up with work!) before sharing my thoughts.
You see, I suffer from extreme pigmentation. It must have been caused from the time I spent in Australia almost 6 years ago, as I never used to have such prominent sun damage signs.
Nowadays, even when a little bit of sun comes out, I get brown patches, obvious sun spots and freckles sprinkled across my forehead and cheeks. When I go on holiday, it gets much worse, sitting like dark patches all blotchy around my face.
It’s not cool: healthy, un-sun damaged skin is cool. And now I have to take careful steps to make sure it doesn’t get any worse.
I also have to take steps to constantly attack the damage already been done, which is in the form of skin treatments and procedures such as Microdermabrasion (and using a lot of exfoliating skincare products with AHA’s and BHA’s).
The latest treatment I had just before going to Cyprus was the SkinBase Microdermabrasion facial, which I timed one week before jetting off into the sun to give my skin that much needed deep exfoliation before going back into the sun.
I went to the lovely Moorlands Beauty Salon in Cheadle, Stoke-on-Trent, to have this facial done, in which my beauty therapist Theresa was extremely welcoming and talked me through the treatment in full. She looked at my skin beforehand and we discussed the problems I have (scarring from acne is another huge bugbear for me as well as pigmentation and marks), and also my dull skin texture.
Theresa talked me through the SkinBase Microdermabrasion, which uses a stream of crystals to remove your skin’s outermost layer of dead cells. The treatment is a chemical-free, non-invasive procedure useing a mild suction to draw away any skin debris, in a bid to reveal a fresh, new and improved complexion.
Theresa started with a double cleanse, in which she straight away noticed dry skin patches around my nose and upper cheeks. Then, she began with the Microdermabrasion treatment.
I have to admit I find the sensation quite relaxing, and even the slight tingle it creates feels nice to me. Theresa worked the suction wand around my face numerous times, delivering a fine jet of abrasive crystals passing over my skin. This is remove the dead skin particles, resulting in a resurfacing effect for the skin and to stimulate the blood flow, encouraging the skin to rejuvenate itself and produce collagen and elastin.
I’m going to try and return and have a course of this SkinBase™ treatment, as with each one, the intensity of the facial microdermabrasion can be increased – reaching to deeper layers and successfully removing acne scarring, lifting pigmentation and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles.
After the session, a relaxing and soothing face mask was applied, and when I left, I had the recommended skin protection products applied so that I was ready to head outside being fully protected.
I have to say, my skin has never felt so smooth and silky. It was glowing and didn’t show too much signs of redness. Of course, there was a little touch of pink to my face, and especially where I have deeper red marks and spots.
As Theresa was aware of my pigmentation, she advised me that Microdermabrasion can bring this forward a little after the treatment as my skin will work to shed the discoloration away.
The photos above are taken one hour after having the treatment, and the photos below were taken 2 days after having it done, when the pigmentation comes to the surface.
Overall, I was overjoyed with this treatment, and I feel the SkinBase Microdermabrasion works really effectively to shed away those dull skin cells and damaged layers of skin, revealing a much brighter, smoother, and clearer complexion.
I’d recommend this for those who have the same pigmentation and sun damage problem as me, but even more so for those with dull skin, acne scarring, and fine lines and wrinkles. A course of three would make such a fantastic difference (I mean, I was blown away after one!), and it’s honestly quite a soothing and relaxing experience!
Thank you to SkinBase and Moorlands Beauty Salon for helping my skin before going on holiday!
