There’s not many things that my hometown of Failsworth is loved for, but there is one thing in particular that puts it on the map. It’s the hometown of Housing Units – the UK’s Home Furnishing Center which truly is one of a kind. Situated across two large buildings, I always find a trip to Housing Units to be more of destination ‘day out’ rather than a quick nosy around a home ware store.
It prides itself in being a department store that covers everything for the modern, contemporary home, to the traditional home, from bathroom design services, carpet fitting, curtain measuring, sofa and furniture retailing, home decor and accessories, kitchenware… pretty much everything you can think of related to the good old ‘Home Sweet Home’.
With being very local, I’ve obviously known about Housing Units for a rather long time, but I don’t really bring myself to visit all that often. However, when a group of us bloggers were invited to spend the evening taking a detailed walk around the store, learning about the history, the product ranges and what they have to offer, it reminded me that I really should head down here more regularly. I had no idea they have their own restaurant where you can enjoy evening meals in a lovely decorated eatery, along with afternoon tea and drinks.
But the main thing was just how bloomin’ Christmassy the store made me! Housing Unites are renowned for their excellent Christmas shops, displays and product offering, so my little tour of the Christmas themed departments really kick started my Christmas spirit..
As I recently bought my first home this year, nothing fills me with more excitement that touring around different home inspiration set-ups to get ideas and aspirations for my own home.
Housing Units is certainly filled with stunning room layouts to fill you with home inspiration – from smart and minimal living rooms, to cute and cosy bedrooms, I always find it a pleasure to walk around and check out the furniture displays and home accessories. Below are a few I snapped away at during my visit:
After checking out the incredible Christmas shop (Housing Units really knows how to do Christmas – the selection of tress and decorations are the best!) and all the other home areas of the store, it was time to try out the restaurant. Us Manchester bloggers snacked on a range of canapes and prosecco whilst chatting to one of the buyers and the team about the store, it’s plans for Christmas and beyond.
If you are truly into your home ware but love a more independent take on furniture which the regular chain brands, and love a good ‘day out’, then I suggest paying a visit to this lovely department store. I’m filled with home and decor ideas for 2016, and I’m pretty sure you will be too!
