So the clocks are going back one hour from next weekend, with the nights getting darker earlier, thus waking up for work in the pitch black. I actually don’t now where the Summer has gone, and maybe seeing as I only managed a quick weekend escape to Barcelona this year, I feel like I’ve missed out a little bit on the whole holiday season.
And now it’s officially getting darker and colder, the post-holiday blues are really kicking in.
I was recently told some interesting facts around post summer feelings from Jet2holidays – who pointed out that ‘post-holiday blues’ is in fact a real condition that up to 70% of UK adults admit to suffering from. Women are more likely to experience this than men, and that it is actually more common amongst 18-24 years olds than older generations.
Jet2holidays also asked holiday makers what the strangest thing to ‘get over the blues’ was that they have done, with some funny little results coming out such as gorging on takeaway nights, and booking more holidays! Some were much more extreme: quitting a job, redecorating their house to resemble a hotel, or even planning a baby!
Well I can assure you, how I’ll be getting over my Summer blues won’t be as drastic. In fact, this year I’m turning it into more of a celebration with the change of season, and focusing on some of the following things to be happy about…
1. Launching My New Autumn/Winter Dress Collection!
Finally it’s arrived! I took to the studio a couple of weeks back to shoot a collection of A/W15 inspired party wear to add to the expanding range over at my What Emma Did Boutique.
The very first new dress has just gone live today, called the Dinner Date Dress, which is a stunning navy lace over lay style, sitting at a classic midi length. It features off the shoulder detailing and a pretty lace design, making it a beautiful option for dinner dates (hence the name), Christmas parties and those all important Winter occasions.
I love the colour navy for dresses – it’s real versatile and genuinely suits the majority of people.
I always aim to keep my dresses affordable, so this one is just £25 and makes a fantastic wardrobe staple. The next dress I’ll be launching will be available mid week, and is called The Dolls House Dress, which I know your all going to love because it is super super pretty. See, who said Winter was so bad?
2. Updating My Footwear
How cool are my new pair of Tamaris loafers? Even though it’s coming into the season of ankle and knee boots, I still need to ensure I have a trendy pair of slip on shoes for those days I need to wear a pair of comfy flat shoes instead.
This time, I opted for a more ‘boyish’ type shoe – a pointed toe loafer style in a patent black and small intricate crystal detailing around the toe. They have a slight wedge to the heel, yet are still low and flat enough to wear these for work everyday or do a lot of walking around the city.
They are uber comfortable and soft, and really dress up as casual outfit like the one I’m wearing in the above shots.
Tamaris are a European retailer, specialising in shoes and accessories, and I’m already a fan of the brand from when I shared my love for the Tamaris trainers I have (you can take a look at my blog post here).
I find the quality of their shoes and trainers to be of a real high standard, where comfort yet affordability is taken into consideration. I’ll be wearing these to work for the next few months before it gets really cold and icy, with their shiny exterior hopefully pulling me out of a post-Summer low moment!
3. Indulge In Guilty Pleasures!
I am a terrible terrible Pizza addict. If I could eat it for five dinners a week I would, so I really have to watch it. However, whilst I’ve been making the transition into Winter and trying to perk myself up, I’ve been indulging in meeting my friends in Pizza Express a lot during lunch times and catching up over copious amounts of cheese and dough balls. Ah well… if it makes me happy!
I’ve also been over indulging in body moisturiser usage, where I have been trying to pay more attention to my skin and general body care by moisturising a lot to stop my skin getting dry.
For a no fuss yet effective lotion, I’ve been using NIVEA this season, and will be trying to use it every day religiously to keep my sin soft and supple over Winter.
So as the above discusses my main ‘distractions’ for getting over the post-holiday blues,I’m going to try and focus on loving the upcoming Winter and celebrating all the things I enjoy about it. Wish me luck!
