How To Improve Your Health and Fitness When at University

When you’re studying, keeping fit and healthy is important so that you can remain focused, work hard, and get great grades without burning yourself out. But, with so many different things to juggle at once, it’s all too easy for students to pick up unhealthy habits, damaging their health and wellness.

Studying and revision can quickly take priority over preparing yourself healthy meals and exercising regularly, but it’s not impossible to lead a healthy lifestyle when you’re busy getting a degree. We’ve listed some of the best ways to keep on top of your health and fitness at university without getting behind with your work.

Tip #1. Choose Accommodation Wisely:

When choosing student accommodation, there are several factors that you will need to take into consideration, such as whether or not your bills are included with the monthly rental price, the size of your room, and whether or not you want a private bathroom, to name a few.

However, your choice of student accommodation could also be beneficial when it comes to staying fit and healthy! Some student accommodation blocks, such as these flats from Collegiate, have on-site gyms that you can use at your leisure, so there’s really no excuse to skip working out.

If you can’t afford to stay in accommodation that includes an on-site gym, it’s a wise idea to pick a flat or student house that’s close to the university gym or a local health club.

Tip #2. Exercise Early:

Getting your physical activity done and out of the way in the morning not only means that you’ll have less to remember to do throughout the rest of your day; it can also be better for your health than exercising at other times of the day!

Hitting the gym, going for a run, or even doing some yoga when you wake up in the morning will get your energy levels up, keep you going for the rest of the day and feeling fresh. And exercising early is the best for weight loss as it keeps you burning calories throughout the day. You’ll also find it easier to sleep at night, which is just what you need to stay mentally alert and sharp.

Tip #3. Join a Sports Team

University is a great place to get involved with playing sports, but even if you have no interest in playing professionally, taking up a sport can be a great hobby to have.

Not only will it be easier for you to turn up and make sure that you practice or play as you won’t want to let your team down, but it can also be an awesome way to find new friends and meet like-minded people who you have loads in common with. Check out the sports societies at your university and go to taster sessions to see if there’s anything that you are interested in.

Tip #4. Get a Fitness Buddy:

The good news is that as a student, you certainly won’t be alone in trying to stay fit and healthy. Working out with a fitness buddy is great fun, and it’ll help to keep you motivated and accountable.
