With working closely with the fashion and retail industry, one thing that interests me year after year is trends in sales. Slightly geeky, I know I know. But it can be really interesting to see how people’s tastes, lifestyles and interests are constantly changing, and how they influence the fashion world.
The most recent dramatic rise that I’m loving is the whole comeback of Sportswear – gym wear, workout outfits and fitness kits are huge business – bigger than ever before! As a regular gym go-er, I have always been super interested in the rise of workout fashion. Fitness is a huge lifestyle element in Australia, so when I was living in Sydney, I was impressed at how many stylish sportswear retailers there were in comparison to the UK.
Anyway, I came back to the UK just in time for it to start kicking in over here. All the High Street names started creating trendy fitness ranges, which have become nothing but a success to the nation. One brand in particular that has done exceptionally well is JD Sports – with recent sales reports revealing the brands sale has rose significantly over the past 12 months.
For me, this is absolutely no surprise. The ‘King of Trainers’ continues to be one of the main trainer suppliers, along with it’s incredible fitness brand launch- Pink Soda Sport. Ladies sometimes worry about how to pull off attractive looking gym wear whilst working out, but Pink Soda Sport arrived last year and really hit the nail on the head.
I recently featured a few of my favourite pieces from their range over at this post here, but as you can see from these photos, I have some more new favourites too! I really can’t get enough of this brand – the fit, the design, the colours and the styling at completely spot on for fashion conscious keep fit girls like myself…
With prices sitting around the £18 mark for a sporty vest top, £15 for a support crop top, and £25 for leggings, the range doesn’t break the bank either. I am totally in love with Pink Soda Sport and can totally see why JD Sports are flying the flag for sports and active wear once again!
In other retail news, I came across a really interesting fashion focused infographic which touches on ‘who is dominating our High Street’? The infographic has been put together by My Voucher Codes, and basically shows up in a visual format who exactly owns our High Street favourites. It’s something you don’t really think about if you aren’t closely associated with the fashion industry, but it’s really interesting to look at and figure out who the biggest players are.
For example, Boohoo are doing incredibly well, and they also own Pretty Little Thing too. Arcadia, on the other hand, are the ultimate ‘biggies, owning a large percentage of our well loved shops, such as Dorothy Perkins, Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge and Burton. An interesting one for me is GAP- I also forget that they are the umbrella company for some of my newest favourite stores, such as Banana Republic.
And whilst I’m on a roll here – did you know that H&M own & Other Stories and COS? Take a look at the infographic here…
