The SS18 fashion shows happened last September, but now we’re right in the middle of the season and ready to make sure we have everything we need to complete our wardrobes. While your mind might be cast back to the incredible ensembles that sashayed down the catwalk, don’t forget the accessories that went with them.
Jewellery is a huge part of those all-important fashion weeks, completing any look beautifully and bringing it all together for an unforgettable appearance. So, when it comes to buying new items to add to your personal collection, don’t forget to invest in key jewellery pieces to go with them!
Here are just some of the jewellery trends that I’m loving and currently showcasing at the moment.
The ultimate accessory for any occasion, earrings continue to be in full force the season ahead. This year, there is no holding back in regards to colour, size and quirkiness; in fact, the more unique, the better!
Balenciaga created huge stand-out pieces that demonstrated just how much you can stretch proportions, while the classic hoop earring got bigger and bolder, showcasing a bright blue shade. Saint Laurent also opted for a new take on the hoop, with a glitzy, glamorous twist, alongside oversized geometric designs.
Chanel opted for diamond chandelier earrings and huge pear shaped creations, while models at Isabel Marant were seen with mirror ball-style earrings hanging from a delicate chain.
Both Dolce and Gabbana and Versace went for huge, bejewelled designs in shades of emerald green and royal blue.
Collection Of Charms
Once a classic jewellery icon, charm bracelets have returned to create a statement in many different forms. Fun and colourful charm bracelets were seen on the catwalk, as well as charm bracelets with matching necklaces. Popular motifs included classic keys, flowers and hearts that have been the chosen style since charm bracelets began.
Charms were also seen hanging from leather cuffs, added to necklaces and even a simple chain belt adorned with charms. I even have a cute little charm that hangs from some tiny hoop earrings, as seen below…
SS18 saw an influx of men wearing subtle but effective pieces of jewellery that had a stylish but masculine feel. Paul & Joe only adorned their male models with jewellery, while the females were left bare when it came to the jewels.
Signet rings and understated necklace chains were seen at Givenchy, reminding us that men can accessorise themselves just as well as the women!
A stronger approach was seen at Vivienne Westwood, with men wearing bolder earrings and layered necklaces to further hammer home the idea of male jewellery.
Chokers have been at the forefront of accessories for some time now, and there’s no sign of the trend slowing down. Instead, it’s being added to and enhanced. The choker has now become a component in a stack of layered necklaces, creating a much stronger look than before.
Mixing them with longer chains with varying pendants, layered necklaces can be reused to create many different looks with the same few pieces. This was seen at various shows including Versace, Christian Dior and Saint Laurent.
So, when it comes to updating your wardrobe for the new seasons, don’t forget the accessories that go with them so flawlessly.
