Last night I headed down to South Manchester for a fashion show with a little bit of a difference. The same features were there;
A sea of stunning clothing – check!
Groups of long-haired indie bands to kick-start the show – check!
The only difference is that the range of models were all from the Take Two Style School, where a group of teenagers who lacked confidence attended the school for 8 weeks, learning how to style themselves, practising hair and make up techniques, and most importantly, learning how to walk the catwalk! They started the course totally oblivious to the world of fashion and styling, and would never dream of modelling in front of the flashing cameras and the media industry audience.
But each and every one of the girls looked every inch a super model, as they strutted along the catwalk with backcombed hair, sky scraper heels and smokey eyes. All clothing was provided by a range of High Street stores including Debenhams, Coast, Warehouse and New Look. One thing I noticed was the array of dazzling prints on the S/S 2010 clothing the girls were modelling. Pretty dresses were embroided with floral prints, crop tops came complete with cutesy hearts, and fitted tee’s sporting a strong colour palette of acid brights.
This was clashed with pastel coloured denim, spray on bodycon dresses and graphic motifs printed on everything.
So it doesn’t need spelling out, but I’ll spell it out anyway! Print print print! Wether its hearts, text, flowers, spots, shapes, parrots, flamingoes! And if you think I’m joking about the last two, then check out Topshop’s new tropical collection called Club Tropicana. This tropical inspired range is made up of South American inspired prints, combining bold, sassy, street wear with hot colours and denim. The look is grown up, unique but totally fun. Just browsing this collection makes me want to pour myself a pina colada and throw on a pineapple printed bikini! Check out my favorites if you want to slip into tropical mode too….
