Last week on my lunch break, I had a mission I had to accomplish. I was going out that evening and needed a new, smart little jacket to throw on over my dress. We are heading into spring now, so I refuse to wrap myself up in my heavy wool winter coat which has been putting a damper on my evening attire.
It was a Saturday, so those of you who live in Manchester can picture the scene: 1pm, Market Street, heading into H&M. Absolute murder. Pay day was a good few weeks away, so I skipped the Hennes section and headed straight to H&M’s Divided Black range. Just as stylish as the Hennes label, but usually a cheaper price tag.
After a quick five-minute dart around, I spotted a smart little black and white jacket squashed in the middle of a rail full of white skinny jeans and white vest tops displaying “Look What The Cat Dragged In” in large lettering. I guessed this was meant to be a purchase suggestion. I mean, the white skinny jeans would look super stylish teamed with the cropped jacket, although I wasnt too sure that the vest top would complete the look. Call me modest, but I wouldn’t say I resembled anything that the cat would drag in. Especially not wearing that jacket. Anyway, I wasnt shopping for vest tops….
So I quickly grabbed my size in the jacket, threw it on and dashed to the nearest mirror. Yes, it was exactly what I was looking for. I glanced at the price tag and couldn’t believe my eyes. £20 for this little baby! The style and quality of the jacket looked very expensive, and popping it on over my casual work clothes transformed me from “lazy-office-day- bum” to “Well-hello-buisness-woman-chic” in five seconds flat.
The following days consisted of being attacked by the following question; “Emma, is your jacket Chanel??”. Of course I should have answered “No, it’s a H&M bargain, only £20”, but really, do I need to be so honest all the time?
Two weeks later, and every time I pop on the jacket, I get the same reaction: “Oooh you look very nice, very Chanel”. So I just nod and agree. There you go, guilty secrets out.
I decided to make a little Polyvore set to show you my bargain ‘Chanel’ jacket (OK, I meant H&M) but you will notice I teamed it up with casual clothes also from H&M. Reason being, I’ve recently toned down my ultra girly, dressy fashion style I usually dress myself in, and have been purchasing a lot more graphic tee’s, denim shorts and skinny jeans. The jacket looks amazing over my smart work clothes, but I’m also loving throwing it on over my casual wear. What do you guys think?
