Beauty: New Years Skin Resolutions

First and foremost- Happy New Year! A huge thank you to all my loyal readers and supporters who are seeing me into my fifth year of blogging. Yes that is right – whatemmadid.com celebrates 5 years this January, so as well as saying Happy New Year I guess I should be saying Happy Birthday too! Perhaps I’ll dedicate my next post to the blog’s birthday…

Anyhow, my first post of 2015 is no other than a skincare new years resolution inspired post, highlighting some key beauty products I am loving currently to deliver healthy skin throughout 2015. I’m going to make it really simple for you; chose products you love and a brand you feel works for your skin, go for simple, non-fussy make-up removers, and look after your skin from the inside too. Here’s the whatemmadid version of how!

The products which have been helping to keep my skin clear, spot-free and retexturised (past break outs can leave me with terrible skin texture and discolouring) are the following from SkinCeuticals:

SkinCeuticals Blemish & Age Cleansing Gel
SkinCeuticals Retexturing Activator
SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Serum
SkinCeuticals Blemish & Age Defence Treatment

These hero products work together to tackle adult acne by decongesting, cleansing, resurfacing and replenishing. If you have healthy, sensitive skin that doesn’t need much help with spot clearing, skin colour and texture help or skin renewal (this works for lines and wrinkles too!) then perhaps this range isn’t for you. I’ve been using them for about 3 weeks now, and have noticed my skin looking fresher, with red marks fading faster, and any cheeky spots that have been cropping up have been drying up faster. I will be updating you about this range after 3 months of use…

If you need help with the above skin concerns too, read below for a quick synopsis of the benefits.

Blemish & Age Cleansing Gel – Designed for ageing skin that is also prone to breakouts, potent cleansing agents such as LHA, glycolic acid and salicylic acid exfoliate, smooth the appearance of irregularities and brighten skin.

Retexturing Activator– An innovative exfoliating and replenishing serum, which has been proven to help reduce the appearance of visible surface lines and wrinkles, as well as help reinforce the skin’s natural barrier for healthier, more radiant looking skin.

Phyto Corrective Serum– Suitable for sensitive skin, or skin prone to imperfections, this is a light oil-free serum enriched with botanical extracts and helps to soothe and calm irritated skin.

Blemish and Age Defense Treatment– This acid blend combines 2% dioic acid with an optimal alpha- and beta-hydroxy acid formulation designed to help protect against the appearance of imperfections, minimise blemishes, and help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Some of my other skincare favourites I’m using alongside the SkinCeuticals products is the timeless cult favourite skin saviour- Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser with the muslin cloth, and I have been removing my make-up everyday since Christmas with the B.Pure Micellar Water from Superdrug. The Micellar Water is a cleanser that restores the skins natural PH balance, and contains no harsh ingredients which dry skin out. I just pour a little bit onto a cotton pad and it removes all traces of make-up in a single sweep. I go over my face a couple of times, and it’s left completely make-up free, even around my eyes and lashes. For £4.99, it cleanses, tones and refreshes, so I now skip using the cream cleansers or face wipes, as this hero does it all, plus looks after my skin at the same time. Love love love it!

Another new years skin resolution that is worth taking note of is to look after your skin from the inside. It’s nothing you, and you’ll have heard of it before, but if you want to make a little difference then it’s a great new years resolution to try to make. I switched from constantly drinking tea and and coffee to green tea about 18 months ago, and I have noticed an improvement to not just the look and feel of my skin, but to my overall health in general. It is one of the best antioxidants as well as speeds up your metabolism, and after getting used to the taste, is quite enjoyable to drink, especially in the winter. The best way I find to drink it is to get yourself a little tea strainer type teapot like mine photographed above from Leaf, and some luxury loose leaf Green Tea such as the Green Rooibos. You can read more about this lovely little purchase over at my previous blog post.

And lastly, avoid face wipes as much as possible but if you do really need to use them (lets be honest, they are quick and effective, plus cheap!) then stick to the bog standard baby wipes from Johnson’s. The fragrance free gentle wipes don’t contain any harsh ingredients, and they still get rid of make-up and daily dirt that will sit on your face, leaving your skin soft. If these wipes are good enough for a babies bottom, then they are good enough for your face too! I keep a pack handy for those nights I have had a few drinks and come stumbling home, when doing my full make-up removal procedure just seems like too much work.
