Beauty: ESPA Skincare Review

I wanted to put a post together today because there has been a beauty brand out there that I have wanted to know more about for ages. If you’re a fan of spa days and luxury pampering, I’m sure you will be no stranger to ESPA – a holistic well-being beauty brand, working from the inside out to create natural beauty and inner calm.

I like to think it’s nice to have a mixture of two types of beauty brands to own in your own home. The first for me is usually the dermatologist developed, effective skincare products which help to treat any problems with your skin (usually acne for me!), and then the more indulgent, luxury products, which work for both skin, body and mind.

ESPA certainly tick the box for the second category, as they are a brand which use a combination of scientifically developed ingredients along with pure, natural ingredients too.

From my experience of ESPA in spas, I’ve noticed they have uplifting, relaxing, and pampering oils and fragrance products, yet an extensive range of serums, moisturisers, exfoliators and masks to improve and treat the skin. So you kind of get the best of both worlds with well-being, holistic approaches, yet professional and scientific focused.

So, I finally got the chance to try ESPA outside of the spa, when I got my hands on some beautiful products from the range to try out. I explained to the brand that I suffer from pigmentation and acne marks, along with combination skin.

They recommended I have a go at using the Tri-Active Advanced Instant Facial, known for encouraging a youthful glow and tackling fine lines at the same time.

I was quite excited to try this product, with having very dull, pigmented skin that is starting to show sings of ageing. Plus, from research, I’d seen so many positive reviews!

In a nutshell, its an advanced age-defying 3-in-1 serum, essence and treatment oil. I just use 1-2 pumps in the evening after cleansing, massaging into my entire face and neck.

The first things I notice with this product is that it is instantly smoothing and hydrating. Literally, when I wake up the next morning, I can feel a smoother, almost more ‘glossier’ texture to my skin, if that makes sense? And it’s completely boosted with hydration immediately too, in which I’d recommend it for those with dry skin.

It takes longer to see the brightening and revitalising results, but they do appear, so stick with this if you’ve just started using it! I noticed after around 6-7 nights of using it that my complexion started to give a radiant glow in the morning, and slowly (but surely) dull, brown/spots started to fade out a little, giving a fresher look.

When I looked into the ingredients, I could see it is packed with Antioxidant Macroalgae Cell Extract (which is said to helpssmooth the appearance of fine lines), White Truffle Extract (to boost elasticity) while Coconut, Jojoba and Avocado Oils for nourishing and strengthening the skin’s moisture barrier.

It’s quite a high end, premium priced treatment product at £60, but literally the 1-2 pumps at night mean this product is going to last sooooo long!

OK, so onto the next set of products I’ve been trying out…

Just before I was due to jet off to Portugal, I discovered this ultimate collection of travel friendly treatments for skin, body and mind, all from ESPA.

The Beauty Explorer Collection is new, put together to give you all the top ESPA favourites whilst on the go. Packed into a handy little travel bag with a little tag, 10 key hero products made up from the brands bestselling formulas are neatly presented, so you can take that touch of professional spa treatments away with you.

This Collection contain the following 10 products:

  • Optimal Skin ProCleanser 30ml
  • Hydrating Floral Spafresh 12ml
  • Optimal Skin ProSerum 10ml
  • Optimal Skin ProMoisturiser 15ml
  • Energising Shower Gel 30ml
  • Smooth and Firm Body Butter 30ml
  • Pink Hair and Scalp Mud 30ml
  • Purifying Shampoo 50ml
  • Nourishing Conditioner 50ml
  • Skin Rescue Balm 15ml

Here’s a bit about each product and how I found them:

This is a daily cleanser, which acts as a 3-in-1 gel cleanser, exfoliator and mask. When I was on holiday, I used this morning and night, smoothing a small amount over my face, neck and décolleté.  Then, I just wet my skin with warm water and massaged lightly in circular movements. It’s packed with Jojoba spheres which you can feel melting into the skin.

I also left it on the skin the occasional time for 5 minutes as a light mask. It’s a really rich exfoliating wash, so it leaves my skin feeling deeply cleansed. Great for holidays when your skin gets full of oils and sun cream!

This product acts a mini toner, which I use after cleansing. It’s refreshing and gentle, so no stinging. I simply soak a cotton wool pad in the toner and sweep over face, neck and décolleté. It removed any last traces of makeup from my cleanse, and left my skin prepped for my serums and moisturisers. A handy little toner to bring away with you!

I found this to be a really indulgent serum to use after cleansing and toning, and it’s sooooo uplifting. The best way to use it is to warm a few drops in your palms and cup your hands over your face to inhale the aroma. Gently smooth over face, neck and décolleté until fully absorbed. You can make this last a little longer by doing it for 5 minutes.

Then, my skin was all ready for moisturising!

A fantastic hydrating moisturiser I used morning and evening after cleansing, toning and applying the serum. It feels super lightweight, and gives just the right amount of hydration to the skin with a lovely relaxing aroma.

Shower Gel:
Now this is one of my favourites to use on holiday, especially in the morning as it smells so zingy and refreshing! It’s an energising shower gel with a super zesty aroma, packed with Coconut Extract for softening. It has a real foaming lather, you know once of those that make you feel really clean?

It utilises Eucalyptus to revitalise and Peppermint to energise. You can even add some of this to your bath on holiday if you fancy too!

Body Butter:
This is a beauuutiful body butter, mainly because it’s so thick and luxurious, and I can really feel it softening and nourishing all my dry bits (knees and elbows especially!). It’s smoothing and firming, as well as being loaded with Vitamin E and argan oil, leaving my body extra silky!

Pink Hair and Scalp Mud:
I can’t say I’ve ever used anything like this before, so it was certainly something new for me. This hair and scalp mud is basically an intensive treatment mask to condition and nourish hair as well as the scalp. You start by massaging directly into the scalp and then distribute through your damp hair. Leave for 20 minutes, and then shampoo off.

It’s a great treatment for when your hair gets dry and brittle, especially on holiday, and I enjoyed using this when I was back from a day at the beach/sea.

Purifying Shampoo:
A lovely shampoo ideal to use after the hair and scalp mud. It features Coconut, Jojoba and Olive Oils to lightly condition as well as cleanse, and it lathers up so rich and creamy! It also uses Honey and a ProVitamin to encourage hair to retain moisture, helping to strengthen and improve shine.

Best of all, its Silicone, SLES and SLS free.

Nourishing Conditioner:
This conditioner is designed to be paired with the shampoo, with the conditioner providing a deep conditioning treatment for the hair. It has a fresh, coconut infused scent which is easy to gently massage into damp hair and scalp. On holiday, I  combed this through and left on my hair for up to 5 minutes before rinsing.

Skin Rescue Balm:
A saviour product for my time in Portugal! It’s literally a wonder balm which you can use on any dry skin or lips – anything that needs soothing. It can also be used as an on-the-spot treatment to nourish nails and cuticles, shape brows or soothe skin after sun exposure.

Literally can’t recommend this Beauty Explorer Collection enough if you have an upcoming holiday – it’s basically all your skin, hair and body heroes packed into a super cute travel bag, giving you everything you’ll need.

The products are worth £74, yet the set costs £65. It’s a premium priced travel set, but it would also make a fantastic gift for anyone you know who has an upcoming holiday, who enjoys taking a slice of luxury beauty away with them…
