5 Ways to Treat Yourself When It Comes to the Weekend

Tough week? We all have them from time to time, especially if you’re in a job where you feel underappreciated and unmotivated in.

Whether you’ve been running around after the kids all week and it’s been particularly full on, or you’ve had some bad news and just need to take your mind off things; we all need and deserve to treat ourselves, especially when we’re feeling low.

Don’t worry if you don’t have a huge budget to play with, it’s still possible to spoil yourself without breaking the bank in the process. Sure a weekend seeing the ballet in Rome and eating gelato sounds like it will certainly cure everything, but you can still spoil yourself and not have to travel so far.

Check out these 5 ways you can treat yourself this weekend, without feeling guilty (or spending lots of cash…)

Pick up that book

Studies have shown that most adults would love to have the time to read a little more. So, if you have a pile of book or just one novel you want to reach the end of then now is the time to indulge yourself.

Take twenty minutes out of your weekend, curl up on the sofa with a hot drink and a cosy blanket and dive in. Don’t worry about all those errands and housework that needs doing, it’ll still be waiting for you in twenty minutes. For now, get lost in someone else’s story.

Take a long, hot bath

When was the last time you didn’t just jump in the shower in the morning and rush out of the door? Well, why not treat your skin and soothe those aching muscles for a change? Run yourself a nice hot bath and pour in some perfectly indulgent bubble bath.

Light some candles, listen to a relaxing playlist and soak your body for a long as you wish. Don’t forget to exfoliate and then afterwards you can buff your skin and cover yourself in some gorgeously indulgent body lotion.

I tend to save these moments for opening my fave bottle of red or white wine and enjoy a glass – uninterrupted – in the bath. Heaven!

Take a walk

It’s true that spending time in nature is good for you. It lowers your blood pressure and reduces your stress levels.

So, if the weather this weekend is looking bright and dry, head out to a place of natural beauty and enjoy a pleasant stroll. You can go alone, or invite a friend along, you could even make a day of it and take a picnic to enjoy.

Treat yourself to food

That new coffee shop that’s just opened on the high street? Go and see what all the fuss is about. Why not order a gorgeously indulgent coffee and a thick slice of cake to match, and have it as your cheat day treat?

You can take a book with you or just watch the world go by for a few hours and don’t worry, calories don’t count when you’re treating yourself!

I sometimes do this and bring my headphones, and take half an hour out listening to my favourite podcasts.

Take a nap

It’s official that none of us are getting enough sleep. So, this weekend, why not treat yourself to some extra sleep? Change your bed sheets, drink some relaxing chamomile tea and see if you can drift off for twenty minutes or so. You deserve it.
