3 Reasons Why Colombia is Perfect For Your Next Trip

Guest article written by Jake from Nomadic Hustle

Oh, Colombia. One country synonymous with certain “cosas” around the world.

A country where many a stereotype exists, yet most have never visited. But here’s the deal…

Some of these stereotypes are certainly true, and some are so incredibly false you’ll be wondering why people ever had these preconceived notions.

Now, I’m not here to get into the nitty gritty of what is and what isn’t in Colombia. I’m here to tell you why the country is a damn good spot for your next exotic adventure.

See, Colombia has an amazing, unique culture and so many stunning places to visit. For example…

Ever heard of salsa dancing? I’m sure you have, but do me a favor and look up some videos on YouTube.

Now imagine on a Saturday night instead of being in front of a screen watching Netflix, you’re only a few feet away from the dance floor.

Trying your hand, errr feet, at this sensual dance with someone you can only communicate a few words with.

But don’t let the communication issue deter you!

Everyone is super friendly with foreigners in the country and heck, you’ve probably get invited to have some ‘cervecitas’.

Anyway, this is only a glimpse of all the things you can do in Colombia. Salsa dancing is one of hundreds of awesome activities to do here.

We haven’t even got into its stunning nature, colonial sites, or the passionate culture. In what many consider one of the most diverse countries you can visit in South America.

Why I Love Colombia

After spending nearly 14+ months in this South American country, you could say I’m more than a fan. For a number of reasons.

Colombia has a ton to offer. But I’m not here to write a book about one of my favorite countries. Instead, I’m going to give you three reasons why Colombia is ideal for your next trip…

Lavish Luxury For Cheap

One of the main reasons Colombia makes an ideal travel spot is how far your hard earned cash will go here.

Luxury on the cheap is easily attainable in this country.

Private pools, plush king-size bed, luxurious bathrooms, daily maid service, and most importantly, stunning mountain and/or ocean views.

I’m talking views like I had in Medellin just a few months back:

With the struggling Colombian Peso, your Dollars, Euros, and Pounds will go far in Colombia these days. You could easily rent a beautiful penthouse like the one where I stay in Medellin. Not flexing, just saying.

Or maybe a beachfront apartment in Cartagena is more your style.

Up to you. Either way, you’ll be able to stay a luxurious spots for a fraction of the cost back home.

Natural Wonders Around Every Corner

Colombia is paradise for those who love natural wonders around every corner.

The country has been blessed with miles upon miles of beaches on the Pacific and Caribbean coasts, along with a mountainous interior that offers stunning views from all over.

Seriously…

It doesn’t get much prettier than some of the spots I’ve seen in Colombia. An endless number of spots that ensure you can travel for months on end and not see it all.

Now, I know you might not have months on end to witness all the natural beauty found in Colombia. So I wanted to throw out some of my top recommendations for you:

 Must GO Destinations

  • Piedra del peñol, Guatapé
  • Ciudad amurallada, Cartagena
  • Isla Fuerte, Cartagena
  • Parque Tayrona, Santa Marta
  • Panaca, Quimbaya
  • Santa Cruz de Mompox, Bolivar

And if none of those spots are wild enough for you, there’s still one natural wonder many an adventurer would love to see:

The Lost City

I haven’t been yet, but on my next trip to Colombia I’ll be doing the 4-5 day “Lost City” trek on the coast of Colombia.

Highly recommended.

Safer Than You Think…

Most people have the misconception that Colombia is full of thugs selling drugs in every corner and that the country is still the murder capital of the world.

Or that you’ll get robbed every time you walk outside the hotel or Airbnb.

And don’t get me wrong…

Is Colombia safe?

Well, Colombia can be dangerous, but all depends where you live, where you go, and how you act.

Sure, there’s drugs and women found around a few corners in the country, but it’s not as widespread as some make you believe.

You can easily live in a safe neighborhood and go for a walk with no problem.

But if you whip out that new iPhone in the barrio, well, I mean it’s a third world country. What do you expect?!

Overall, Colombia has changed.

A lot!

Still, the country has improved in so many ways you can’t imagine. Every time I go back I’m impressed with how much progress places like Medellin and Cali have made.

How much safer and cleaner they’ve become.

Most tourists go to Colombia and have zero safety issues, and they come away baffled by how friendly the people are.

Viva Colombia | Final Thoughts

Overall…

Colombia is an ideal travel spot for many.

From the lavish luxury available for pennies on the dollar to the stunning natural wonders, there’s a lot to love about this unique South American country.

If you’re looking for a new adventure, give Colombia a glance.

You won’t regret it.

Te lo juro.
