Today was one of the first days I walked through Manchester to work and could see my breath in front of me… so it’s official… Winter has fully arrived! I have a half an hour walk in the mornings so I decided to do a little bit of a budget winter boot shop to keep my feet warm and protect them from the puddles and snow that I’ll be expected to see lots of. Even though I’m a huge H&M fan and shop there religiously, I have never bought a pair of shoes from the brand, like ever… which is pretty crazy to say I worked in-store at H&M throughout university 7 years ago and usually make a purchase every weekend still to this day!
The black one’s in the above shot are my new H&M beauties. Some may say they are not the most practical for Winter… I on the other hand say they are more than ideal for me! The chunky heel means these are easy to walk in and don’t hurt my feet or create an ache. Same goes with the chunky sole. And as they go slightly up my ankle, it means I can hide snuggly novelty socks underneath them – winner! The best bit? A bargain at £25, and due to the block heel, they will never need re-heeling.
The brown one’s are from a little shop in Le Marais area of Paris, so unfortunately not shop-able in the UK but they are quite a nice inspiration if your looking for a simple brown buckle detail boot!
Another random wintery themed topic I want to mention in this post is wintery hair… you surely all feel my pain at the thought of walking to work or being out in the evenings and experiencing the whole-hair-being-blow-in-your-face-look and not being able to tell if you had your hair straight or wavy. So this winter, I’m using my trusty Toni & Guy hair wand everyday to produce a soft wave so that I don’t have to fight with keeping it poker straight. It actually looks quite pretty and romantic with a soft wave whilst it’s crisp and cold outside and everyone’s wrapped up in thick coats and scarves. Plus – no more ruined hat hair! I stick a beanie style hat on and when I pull it off, it just makes my waves look a tad more ‘disheveled – which is always a good look! I practised this style over weekend at a recent trip to Artisan in Manchester’s Spinningfields…
If your looking for a place to eat and drink in Manchester over the winter months, I do recommend checking this place out. It’s classy but not too pretentious, and does the best Espresso Martini’s- I trust you all love them as much as I do!
So taking strands of hair and wrapping them around the wand for 15 seconds, and holding in place with Bumble and Bumble volumising hairspray gives the below effect. I’ll settle for these waves this Winter!
My last point on today’s blog post is winter beauty, and this one is dedicated to no other than The Body Shop. On Wednesday evening, myself and lots of beauty bloggers from the North West all headed to the Trafford Center store to be shown the beautiful range of Christmas gifts and new products that have launched for Autumn/Winter ’14. All the brand’s staple favourite products that we all love and worship were put together in little sets- you know the products I’m talking about – the yummy lip balms and delightfully scented body lotion tubs that we all spend ages smelling we go in store (don’t pretend you don’t do this!).
We were also treated to mini makeovers with the team of make-up artists on hand. I had a little eyebrow masterclass with one of the girls, as I have ran out of my very favourite MAC Lingering eyeliner (which I swear by on this blog), but I really need a cheaper alternative whilst we’re on this side of the Christmas run up. I was shown The Body Shop Brow Definer Pencil in shade 03 Dark Brown for £8, as a new alternative whilst I’m saving pennies and keeping away from the money curse that is MAC. So far, so good, I have used this today and was more than happy with the softness of the pencil and intensity of the colour for the cost. Very good value for money I would say!
Also on hand at the Christmas beauty event was cheese and wine! What more do you want? Oh yeah- mince pies, chocolate and bucks fizz… well yes they were there too! You need this fuel when you shop after all…
In true beauty blogger style I was straight over at The Body Shop make-up collections, eyeing up what new products they have launched for the gifting season. I find good quality make-up products make lovely stocking fillers, therefore I was impressed with their new Prime To Perfection set, which contains an Instablur cream and Instablur eye cream. These are ideal for mums, friends, or a very generous secret santa gift…
A product range from The Body Shop that I really want top try is their Vitamin C Microdermabrasion facial products. They sound like a god send – we all know vitamin C brightens skin, and I love an exfoliator that doubles up as a strong microdermabrasion product as I often need to have this treatment done to get rid of dull skin cells. I haven’t yet tried this product range, but I really want to therefore it will be appearing on my Christmas Wish List. The online reviews look promising up to now!
So there we go, a little round up of a few wintery recommendations from the whatemmadid.com world today. Winter boots, winter waves, and winter beauty. Do share with me some of your winter must-have’s too if you have some personal ones!
