Here it is – 2016 has finally graced us, so Happy New Year!! 2015 was a rather interesting year for me; it certainly had it’s ups, yet it certainly had its downs. However, it brought so much more joy to my life than many of the previous years, so I’m summing it up to be pretty awesome. I have definitely learnt more about myself in the past year than ever before, which I believe will leave me in good stead for 2016…
I won’t bore you with all the personal highs and lows, so a super quick summery of the highs include launching my own dress boutique, meeting lots of new blogger friends, making the decision to go more full time with the blog, buying my own first house, renovating it (a stressful time but how proud I am when I look back!), becoming an auntie to my beautiful niece, remaining healthy, and keeping my strongest friendships stronger than…well…strong!
So what does 2016 hold? I don’t want to do a whole ‘new year new me’ post, because quite frankly, people don’t always want to see them. So what I have done instead is put together some little pointers about how I’ll be trying to embark on a healthier and happier 2016, and some advice for any of you guys struggling to set yourself goals. So here we go…
1. Use more Natural products
I don’t mean this in a way which makes me sound all nature obsessive and uptight about chemicals used in beauty products, it’s more of a personal lesson learnt from 2015. I just generally found a lot of natural products including Aloe Vera gel, Coconut Oil and Tea Tree work wonders for me and perhaps I should bring these into my beauty regime a little more this year. One ingredient I am making an effort to introduce more this year is jojoba oil, due to it’s zillions of amazing functions! I’ve been using a 100% pure Australia Jojoba Oil from The Jojoba Company (pictured above) to help with calming redness, improving overall skin texture, soothing dryness and moisturing my nails, and love how it’s an all round natural beauty wonder, fixing a multitude of hair, skin and nail sins. Must use more often in the new year!
2. Cut out ‘bad drinks’
When I say ‘bad drinks’, I’m aware it’s a pretty vague word, but I guess I mean it with a vague meaning too. For me, I’ll be cutting out unnecessary fizzy drinks and fruit juices which are packed with sugars and colourants. I also need to cut out on the amount of fatty latte’s I drink – I mean, I only have one a day, but surely I can cut this down to one every other day. I recently trialed out Teatox teas which are predominately a slimming tea, yet also have lots of beauty benefits. I don’t personally need to worry about my weight, however these natural herbal teas – which have both a daytime blend and evening blend – gently support the bodies natural digestive system whilst cleansing and removing toxins, so whilst I tried these out I actually enjoyed feeling a lot more cleansed out, and noticed clearer skin too. Why not switch up your daily latte for one of these too? You can purchase the packs from Natural Beauty Slimming online.
Which brings me onto another drink related goal!…
3. Reduce ‘Coffee Dates’.
So when I say ‘reduce’, I do mean reduce, and not totally cut out of course! Coffee catch ups in Starbucks (or quirky Northern Quarter coffee shops if you are familiar with Manchester) are often the highlight of my week, so I would never remove this luxury. However, do you ever get that feeling when you check your online banking and see various £6.50 payments made to Starbucks for a coffee and slice of cake? These pop up way too often for me, so I’m going to aim to save the pennies this year and host lots more catch-up tea’s at my house. I’ve recently been enjoying a traditional organic green tea and breakfast tea from Bellevue Tea, who make the nicest organic tea. Each bag is wrapped individually in cute packaging, and I love that the tea’s are from a family ran small business, sourcing the finest quality tea’s from London. I’m going to make much more of an effort to invite the girls round for a home brew and natter this year…
4. Continue to look after my skin
I have such a roller-coaster ride with my skin – I don’t even know how to summarise! One year it’s clean and clear, and I’m going to work with no makeup on. The next, acne pays me an un-welcomed visit (again) and I feel like I can’t leave my house. For 2015, I tried so many more ‘experiments’ shall we say, to try tackle my outbreaks and uneven skin texture. One of the external treatments was Dermaroller sessions, where hundreds of needed prick my skin to regenerate the collagen production. So far so good! An internal treatment I fell in love with was Skinade, which I tried out over a three month period. It’s basically a collagen drink (which strangely tastes extremely nice in my opinion!) made up of natural Peach and Mangosteen flavoured collagen, a patent pending formulation of active ingredients that aim to boosts your body’s natural production of collagen and hyaluronic acid. The aim is to keep up the routine of drinking a bottle a day, as consuming collagen in liquid form achieves an absorption rate of 90-95% – so much more than tablets or powders. I couldn’t afford to purchase this after my 3 months, however, I can vouch that Skinade worked for me in terms of giving me clear, glowing and spot free skin!
For 2016, I’m going to try and save up a little more to try and give collagen drinks another go before a big event (like the run up to a holiday perhaps) and to invest more in Dermaroller treatments, and also Microdermabrasion. It can work out expensive, so lets see how much I can save!
5. Go coco crazy
Well what can I say, in a very enthusiastic tone, I just love Coconut Oil! I discovered it last year in the more solid form, and now I cook with it instead of using cooking oil, and also use it to swill my mouth to help whiten my teeth and fight mouth bacteria. I also use it as a hair mask to moisturise my dry hair, and actually come to think of it, I even spread it on toast instead of butter. A new way of incorporating Coconut Oil into my life for 2016 is to try out Coconut Oil capsules. I have managed to get hold of these natural capsules from Natural Beauty Slimming, which help the benefits of Coconut Oil work from within. I’ve heard that with regular consumption, they can really help to thicken up your hair and clear your skin, so I’ll be giving these a go!
6. Look after Skin, Hair and Nails
In a bid to keep my skin, hair and nails healthy in 2016, I’ll be continuing to take a daily supplement which delivers vitamins and nutrients for healthy skin, hair and nails. There are so many out there packed with natural goodies to help your skin fight the signs of aging, but these two I’m discovered above seem to be working really well at present. The Hair Pro capsules contain Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5), Vitamin A, Vitamin C,Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, and Vitamin B Complex to promote thicker, stronger and longer hair, and the Skin Care Plus capsules contains added Vitamin C and Marine Collagen for soft, supple, healthy skin. I’m all about natural remedies, so I insist on continuing this for the new year!
7. Go on more walks
You can’t beat outdoor exercise! I currently have a pair of walking boots from Sports Direct on my shopping list so I can venture out on more outdoor walks this year. Not only is it a great way to keep fit, the fresh air is a natural mood lifter, releasing endorphin’s for a more ‘happier you’ so to speak. It’s also a nice activity to do alone of with friends. I’m quite lucky to live near lots of country parks, so I’m definitely aiming to make more use of them this new year,
So there we go… a couple of pointers that I hope have sparked some personal inspiration. Let me know your New Years goals too!
