In time for Summer, Manchester’s popular restaurant and bar The Alchemist launched new menus and charity iniative.
Based on New York Street and Spinningfields in Manchester, The Alchemist has announced the arrival of its much anticipated new food and cocktail menus. Lets face it: no one does cocktails like The Alchemist! Many a time I’ve visitied this place just for the novelty of a steaming, sizzling cocktail, causing a lot of attention….
But as a big Manchester foodie, I was interested in hearing they had launched a new food menu too. The menus became available in all venues on Tuesday 15th May 2018, covering breakfast and brunch right through to dinner and after work drinks.
The updated food offering includes a host of delicious and nourishing dishes in time for summer, featuring a selection of vegan options, such as a fragrant Keralan curry with chickpeas and cauliflower rice, a Shawarma Cauliflower Steak served with Harissa yoghurt and an energising mixed grain salad.
The Alchemist are also delighted to announce their partnership with Foodinate, a charitable organisation that works to end local food poverty by running a ‘meal for a meal’ initiative. The Alchemist has pledged to cover the cost of a hot, nutritious meal to a local person in need every time a customer orders the Duck Gyozas or Keralan Curry.
To get a feel of their charity initiative, I headed down to the New York Street venue and tried out the Duck Gyozas and Keralan Curry myself. They didn’t disappoint – the curry had a real kick to it, and to say it’s a vegetable based dish, it was full of flavour and actually really filling!
The updated cocktail list follows six months of innovation and experimentation from The Alchemist’s in-house expert mixologists to create its unrivalled theatrical serves.
The new additions are Alchemist twists on old classics, using new techniques and ingredients. The menu welcomes nine new magical additions bursting with complex and fresh flavours.
Highlights include the ‘Pot O’ Gold’; a flavoursome and refreshing rhubarb gin and grapefruit juice combination, served alongside a beaker of pineapple gin jelly, as well as the ‘Iced Charcoal Latte’, an Alchemist take on the Espresso Martini. I haven’t tried this one yet but I think this one pretty much has my name on it.
Guests can also expect mainstay favourites such as The Lightbulb Moment and The Colour Changing One.

My guest who dined with me opted for the Chicken In A Basket option from the menu, which is a bit of firm favourite. I had to snap away at this because I just think it’s a chicken lovers dream! Here’s a little tip too: it tastes even better when washed down with a cocktail…
