Sundy 18th June see’s Father Day arrive, and if you’re anything like me, you may feel a little stumped when it comes to gifts for Dad. I mean, my Dad has a number of ‘hobbies’, but I’ve gifted him items reflecting his hobbies countless times before. My Dad doesn’t possibly need any more pints bought for him, or pairs of socks, or polo shirts, or fishing gear.
Luckily, there’s that old trusted favourite: fragrances. My Dad never goes shopping, and I don’t think he’s too sure on how to use the internet for online shopping. So its safe to say he’d never physically go out there to top up on his favourite scent. So this is where I come in. And Fragrance Direct of course, where I have stocked up on some fantastic men’s designer scents! One of my own Dad, one for my partner, and one for my partners Dad!
Not one of them will be unhappy being gifted one of the most popular, much-loved fragrances in the men’s world. But I guess the question is: how on Earth do you pic which fragrance to choose?
Yes, the fragrance market is slightly over saturated, but that’s because there are just so many new gorgeous scented fragrances launching all the time. It’s so we never have to worry about not having enough choice, and its always a great thing to be spoilt for choice when it comes to aftershaves and scents.
Plus, a bit of new-ness and breaking the habit of relying on that old trusty favourite is definitely good for you! And your nose of course.
So, how do you find the perfect fragrance for your Dad this Fathers Day? I discovered a dedicated Fathers Day quiz held on the Fragrance Direct website which helped me out tonnes hen it came to Father’s Day Gifts. Basically, you answer a series of questions about him, everything from where yo’d ideally take him on a day/night out, to his favourite types of scents, and the quiz reveals what kind of gent he is.
You then click on the results age, where you’ll find a bespoke list of fragrances designed to reflect your Dad’s personality, to help you shop a little easier!
I’m really happy with the scents that I’ve picked out, mainly because I know they are suited to the personalities just right. For example, my Dad has worn Lacoste scents before, but older versions, so I was edging towards updating him to one of the newer options. The Lacoste L 12 12 Blanc comes in a classic, stylish and fuss-free bottle, yet keeps a chic appearance, which I know my Dad would appreciate. It also has woody notes with deep hues of leather and suede, for a real masculine feel. He doesn’t tend to want anything super fruity or edging towards a unisex smell, so this one is ideal.
The other fragrances I have include the Hugo BOSS Boss Bottled Tonic Eau de Toilette Spray, which in my opinion is more for the designer led gent. It’s slick, premium and super cool, making it more of an option for my partner (although he totally isn’t super cool, but he’ll be reading this so I’ll stop there…)
And the final one is the GUCCI Guilty Absolute, one which has strong fashion ties and is strongly masculine. This scent in particular is born out of a special collaboration between creative director Alessandro Michele and maitre perfumeur Alberto Morillas, and embodies the liberated man made for an innovative expression of a woody scent.
If you’re a little stumped this Fathers Day, don’t forget to go back to the traditional idea of a trusty fragrance. All Fathers – and men for that matter – love receiving them, and they make ideal gifts year after year.
Now you just have to decide which one!
