In all honesty, I can’t remember the last time I went out dressed in all white. I sometimes have that ‘white fashion fear’ surrounding those typical girl thoughts: will I look like I’m upstaging the bride? (at a wedding), or what if I spill red wine all over myself? Or the most common one which I thought of the other day when I slipped on an ivory white dress, what if I look like I’m going to a christening?
In all honesty, those thoughts are pretty ridiculous (apart from the red wine one – that would be hell, and sometimes, all I want to drink is a glass of vino rouge). White is far more sexier than black, and wearing white shows one main trait in my eyes, and that is confidence. A girl slipped on a clean white minimal dress for some reason portrays confidence, elegance, and power. Don’t get me wrong, myself more than anyone loves nothing more than a statement black dress, but there is just something edgier and more daring about wearing white.
It’s fresh, modern and classic, and in my eyes white doesn’t need to be worn to suit a particular season. Maybe in Winter I need to focus on applying a touch of false tan before I let my pasty skin be wrapped up in more white, but other than that pairing a white dress up with killer heels and a clutch (and maybe a little blazer) looks super smart and professional.
The images above show me wearing one of my favourite little white numbers. It’s a midi style, so I’d happily wear it in winter, once I have gotten over my red wine fear of course. The midi length means it comes up to my calves, making it a sleek white number.
I noticed that it’s not me just celebrating wearing white at present – gorgeous fashion retailer Forever Unique are running a #WhiteIsTheNewBlack campaign, where they too are showcasing why you should highlight your night in white. The promotion they are running allows you to shop 30% off any white outfits from Forever Unique until Monday, so it’s an excellent time to do a little bit of dress shopping before the crazy Christmas party dress shopping sprees kick in soon.
If you are feeling alarmed at the thought of white, take a look at the current collection of white dresses and stunning ensembles that are running in the #WhiteIsTheNewBlack campaign – they come in so many styles, from mini, midi, maxi, and also some gorgeous sheer blouses too for those who are more into subtle smart fashion than party dresses.
The above dress and jumpsuit are two of my favourites from the Forever Unique white collection, which I feel I could confidently wear and actually feel a little bit more ‘standout-ish’ than in black. Let me know your thoughts on whether you agree that #WhiteIsTheNewBlack too!
