Fashion: What To Wear For Any Valentines Occasion

white lace dress
So the party season has passed, and I’ve started having that feeling of missing the whole  ‘something to look forward to’. Cast your mind back to December and everything we had to look forward to: Christmas parties, family gatherings, Christmas Day, Boxing Day drinks, New Years Eve parties…. and now it’s hello January, hello quiet diary. I feel as if my favourite dresses and party wear are locked up – sorry bolted up – in my wardrobe, along with a padlock, and a sign saying “No occasions for these. Come back at Christmas”.

Sigh. So I drastically think of the next upcoming occasion where I can possibly think there may be an excuse to dress up, and then I find it. Hello Valentines Day! You are only five sweet weeks away, and depending on your relationship status, there are lots of excuses to outfit plan for this event. However, the problem can sometimes be that you just don’t know how you should dress, as every occasion is slightly different and requires suitable attire. Hopefully my little guide I have put together should help you and give you some ideas on how to successfully dress, depending on your plans.

Early Stages of Dating:
Uh oh. Those awkward stages of dating someone. If you’re in this situation, then you’ll know exactly what I mean. You have had around four dates with each other, and don’t yet feel confident enough to start putting cash bets on with your friends that he’ll still be here for the Summer, but you also feel a Valentines Day dinner or drinks night will be on the cards. Keep it classic and traditional if this is the case. You still want to impress him, but you don’t want to go overboard and start showing your wild side, or your crazy dress collection in some peoples cases. Opt for a fancy-free black dress, but one that is feminine, flattering and fabulous. I’ve posted the below photo of me in my Annabelle Black Dress from my own boutique, which can be found here, for some inspiration.

Single Girls Night
OK so not everyone’s lucky enough to be with super hot guy this Valentines. In fact, some girls out there would say it’s rather unlucky to be chained to a bloke on this night on the year. I mean – think how many cute singles will be out lining the bars? Shimmy up to some stunning strangers in a flirty, skin flashing dress, and you may get a glass of Prosecco (or two) bought for you. Don’t show too much skin, but do give off the impression your are free and single with a little backless number, like the one below. If you’d prefer your back covered, go for a small side split, or cut-out/keyhole detail.

Valentines Dinner/ Hotel Evening
Awwwww… so you and your number one guy have been together for a while, and you decide to celebrate your time together with a slap up weekend away at a fancy hotel, or an evening booked into your favourite restaurant. In this instance, dress up for the occasion! Find your most stunning occasion dress, most precious heels, book in for a blow dry and pop on that red pout. This is the perfect excuse to get totally dressed up. This sleeve detail dress from Forever Unique, called Allegra, is just one design from their array of occasion dresses that are show stoppers for the nation’s most romantic night. Valentines Themed Party
Single, married, dating, half and half… whatever the status… sometimes we get invited to a Valentines themed party, or why not throw your own this year? This is the best excuse to wear a shocking red dress, or a pretty pink number. Wear one of the mentioned two, and you have no excuse for getting the dress code wrong. Find a real girly number like this cute Jamilia dress, again from Forever Unique.

Casual Cinema Date
So your guy doesn’t rate Valentines Day too much, but suggests popping out to watch a film at your local cinema, followed by a visit to the local Nandos or Wagamamas next door. OK, so hardly an occasion to dig out your finest heels, but you should still make an effort. After all, I’d pretty much go as far as to say a cinema and food date is one of my favourite days/nights out! Find your prettiest day time dress, with floaty sleeves and a fresh colour palette, one that’s practical with flat shoes and a smart jacket. Think about your usual day time or evening attire on an outing with friends, and just sweeten it up a little bit. Take inspiration from this printed little number from ASOS. Playsuits are also a good one for this! May need to be paired with tights in this current weather though…

No reason to stress out on what to wear for Valentines Day now, whatever the event is you plan to do. So this means there is lots more time to stress out on all the other sickly stuff that comes with the big V-Day, like what to buy your Valentine…. (if anything at all?), whether to send that anonymous card (if you are single, of course!), etc etc…

Hope this post has helped!
