Beauty: Titanic Spa, Huddersfield

new outdoor hot tub
So I go to quite a lot of spa days, and if you read whatemmadid.com regularly, you’ll see I have visited some absolutely amazing ones throughout 2015. However, if I could recommend just one, it would have to be Titanic Spa in Huddersfield. And I have a million reasons why.

I did actually have prior knowledge about this place before visiting – so many of my friends had spoken positively of this place, as well as me spying a lot of gorgeous photos and tweets about this place over the years on social media. The location of Titanic is the first thing that drew to me book a spa day here, as it is nestled in between the pennies, slightly secluded from the hustle and bustle of surrounding towns. I love an excuse to escape the center of Manchester (as much as I love it) as there is just something so calming and relaxing about packing a day bag and heading off for a spa day away from the city.

The reason I booked the spa day on this occasion was actually for my best friends 30th birthday. Me, my twin sister and best friend headed here in December for a pampering girly day, as what better way to celebrate a 30th birthday than being with your best girls, having a massage, and experience a day of lunch, prosecco, and total relaxation?

First of all I want to thank the team at Titanic for being so welcoming and accommodating on our arrival. We were actually running a little bit late due to the birthday girl forgetting her swimwear (and that’s very essential to double back for when there’s a luxury outdoor hot tub and swimming pool waiting for us!), but the reception team hurried us through so we could still get an hour long treatment even though we arrived a little after our booking time. We each experienced the AromaSoul Elements Massage, which is part of the Comfort Zone treatments, new for 2015. This included 55 minutes of intense massage, based on the exotic oil of our choices. My therapist let me pick from Oriental, Arabian, Mediterranean or Indian, in which I picked the draining, toning and energising Mediterranean massage. The oil smelt so good, I just had to opt for this one!

The therapist was extremely professional, and I only wished the massage could have gone on for longer. I left with super supple skin, which was scented and moisturised from being drenched with the exotic body oil, plus relaxed muscles, a clear mind, and relieved joints.

Following our massage sessions, we spent the best part of an hour in what I could only describe as the ultimate highlight of the day – the outdoor hot tub. The air was so cold and crisp on the chilly December day that we attended that the three of us were freezing as we stepped out in our robes to the outdoor area. Just the slightest look at the steam coming out from the hot tub and I knew that hot tub was the best place to stay! It was incredible to be sat in the bubbling hot waters whilst surrounded by trees and the Yorkshire scenery. All that was missing was a glass of fizz in one hand!

In true spa day form, we then explored the swimming pool, sauna and steam rooms, as well as the unique Titanic Heat and Ice Experience. This is basically an area filled with a variety of heated saunas and steam rooms with menthol/relaxation oils, and also ice cold rooms and showers. I usually run a mile from anything remotely cold, but there is something comforting about sitting in an ice cold room, before rushing into a steam room, and then finishing off dipping my feet into a hot foaming foot bath! I wasn’t brave enough to stand under the ice bucket like one woman was. Maybe next time eh…

And I almost forgot to mention the relaxation room, which features enormous bean bags, beds and comfort areas to simply just rest your body and do nothing but relax. Ah, bliss…

After an amazing experience exploring what Titanic Spa has to offer, we sat ourselves down to enjoy a spot of 30th birthday lunch, dessert and a bottle of Prosecco – it would be totally rude not too, right?

The Bistro dining area is a lovely layout, but what I loved best is that you just gather together at your chosen table in your dressing gowns and slippers. So casual, yet such a smart and premium setting. All three of us opted for the linguine option, after all, it was a day of treating ourselves so why not indulge in carbs! Alongside this, we snacked on bread, olives and dipping oils, which was the perfect accompaniment. However the highlight of the lunch had to be the desserts… I’m such a sucker for a delicious slice of cake, and the treacle and orange option I went for did not disappoint!

We finished off the day with a coffee in the spa’s newest bar area, situated to the back of the spa. If I was staying over for the night, I would absolutely love to have a table here to sit and have a few drinks for the evening, as the decor and interior is breathtakingly stunning. The bar area is clean and modern, with lots of rose gold and bronze metal features. The seating area is plush and pretty, with comfy white seats and pale pink cushions. Minimal, yet statement. We managed to find a little seating alcove designed as one huge bed area where we lay down and took our coffees to, before ending our lovely day.

A 10/10 experience – I can’t wait to hopefully return for my own 30th this year and stay over in at Titanic’s apartments next time too!
