If you live in or around Manchester, there is one spa I would love to recommend to you all, and that is The Spa at The Midland. I recently had the nicest experience here when I took my sister for a lovely day out, and actually left feeling like I needed to return and visit again. For those who know of The Midland Hotel will know it has a grand and luxurious reputation, therefore the spa has set itself high standards to adhere to, matching that of the hotel. The spa only opened it’s doors back in June, therefore hasn’t been open for very long, yet has already been wowing it’s customers with it’s exceptional focus on luxury, relaxation and health.
Situated on Peter Street in the busy city centre, this spa in particular has positioned itself as a ‘spa in the city’ venture, where busy city workers and those who spend a lot of time in the hustle and bustle can book in to take time out for much needed well-being. Fitting in well with it’s location and potential clientèle, the treatment offering includes a section focused on the ‘urban’ beauty and grooming market, using the latest facial and body technological concepts for those who demand rapid results. This includes the advanced 3D Skintech machine assisted facials, the first of their kind in Manchester; a full range of face and body treatments from spa brand ESPA; and nails by Jessica. It was great to see that they offer an express spa space which enables lunchtime guests or those with limited time, to benefit from stress relieving 25 minute express massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, eye care, tanning and wax treatments.
Upon my visit, I booked in for a 25 minute express facial, where my therapist carried out a relaxing, skin brightening facial using ESPA products. She focused on products which would take care of my dull complexion, allowing my skin to appear more radiant, smooth and moisturised. For a busy person like myself, booking in for a 25 minute facial is more than ideal for me and my lifestyle. My therapist also squeezed in a little arm, neck and shoulder massage which was the loveliest addition to the facial. My guest opted for a different treatment than myself, and experienced the Invigorating Foot Massage treatment, which involved dedicated foot care using massage techniques and luxury products. We both got to select what relaxing music we wanted playing during our treatments, which was a charming touch I haven’t been offered at any other spa experience.
After the treatments, guests get taken to enjoy some time out to relax by siping herbal teas and lemon water, resting in a room dedicated to calming spaces. Dimly lit and air conditioned, the room is filled with relaxation pods and comfy beds to have a little ‘chill out’. My and my sister curled up in a swinging pod with our tasty teas and just spent half an hour catching up. I honestly could have stayed in there for so much longer!
Another lovely addition to the spa was the assortment of thermal experience showers, the bubbly jacuzzi, swimming pool, Himalyan Rock Salt sauna and the salt infused steam room. I spent a further half an hour enjoying all of them to finish of my day at the spa post-facial. I love nothing more than spending time in a sauna, so the rock salt infusion was a great little add on.
The Spa at The Midland offers a lunchtime menu of dishes which incorporate a selection of foods as more of a grazing option. This is perfect for me, as I like to have a few selections to snack on, especially when they incorporate superfoods. As you can see from above, I opted for a vegetarian option which offered avocado, cauliflower, cheeses and a super healthy green soup. My sister had the fish option, and as you can see from the photos the plates are a nice serving size of different little meal options to try.
Overall, The Spa at The Midland certainly lived up to the expectations I had when I first heard about it’s launch. The staff couldn’t have been more courteous and helpful, and the setting really promotes a tranquil and calming experience. Spa days start from £69, but check out the website here for more information and offerings.
