Beauty: Stila SS16 Collection

Stila is a make-up brand I have always associated with quality, luxury products. I’ve been using a Stila liquid eyeliner pen for the past six months, and honestly have to say it is one of the best I have ever used. The precision and ease of the product is fantastic – leaving an inky jet black stroke on my upper lids, with a striking black flick.

Apart from this super product, and the odd lip gloss over the years, I hadn’t treated myself to this brand and their products before. So when I was invited to meet Kaci Harabedian, International Executive Director for Stila, the other week to go through the new SS16 products, I literally jumped at the chance.

The new SS16 collection from Stila is inspired by Impressionism; based around ‘the revolutionary art movement known for dramatic plays on light and vivid colours’. The product range focuses on lots of featherweight textures using light and water to create a flawless canvas. From viewing the collection, I was first blown away with the stunning packaging. The bottles, boxes and tubes all feature a luxury champagne ombre effect, giving a premium look. The lettering is in a high shine gold, looking super glamorous on my dressing table (which of course is really important for a beauty blogger!)

I could see Kaci and the team’s enthusiasm the moment I arrived at the personal shopping suite, in Manchester’s Harvey Nichols department store. She talked me through the collection, the inspirations, and the highlights of each product, sampling them on my skin so I could see the results for myself. I had only been with the team for around 5 minutes when I realised that my stereotype presumption of the brand had been correct: it’s a real professional brand which aims to provide effortless, easy-to-use products with high quality ingredients. Here’s me and the lovely Kaci below…

So what products did I discover from Stila, and what are my thoughts? Here’s a little round up…

Aqua Glow™ Serun Foundation, £36.50
A super lightweight foundation which glides onto my skin effortlessly. This product aims to add radiance and moisture upon application, and I certainly noticed the radiance instantly. It’s like this foundation has light reflecting particules which give a subtle glow – certainly a bonus for me and my dull skin! They do say it contains multi-reflective colour pigments, which use light to optically smooth the skin, helping to reduce the appearance of skin imperfections, pores, fine lines and wrinkles. I can vouch it definitely does this. The foundation also has a complex of Ionised Water, advanced Hyaluronic Acid and essential minerals, which help to hydrate and nourish.

Aqua Glow™ Serum Concealer £19.00
This concealer pleasantly surprised me, as I was more than happy using a Benefit concealer and wasn’t really looking at changing. However, I applied this with a concealer brush and was overly impressed at the coverage – it blended straight into skin smoothly, not sitting in any lines, and gave more of a full coverage (which is what I need under my eyes!). It sets to a semi-matte finish and you can tell it has a serum base, which gives a luxurious feel when being built up on the skin. Love love love this, and it’s quickly become my go-to concealer.

Convertible Colour Dual Lip & Cheek Palette, £29
I have this in the shade ‘sunset splendour’ which is an array of cool tone pinks, terracotta’s and apricots for cheeks and lip. The texture of the shades are ultra creamy and blendable, smoothing into the foundation leaving no streaky marks. The colours are highly pigmented too, meaning the shade doesn’t get lost in the foundation, meaning lots of unnecessary extra application.  I’ve mainly been using this on the apples of my cheeks, using the shade second to the left in the photo below.

Stay All Day® Liquid Lipstick £16
I have this in Caramello – a caramel dusky pink shade, which is creamy and matte. I have to admit I was slightly put off at first because I thought it would be similar to a lipgloss, but it actually applies similar to a gloss, yet dries as a matte lipstick. It also lasted on my lips for around 5 hours without me needing to top it up, which is pretty fantastic in my view! It’s enriched with Vitamin E and avocado oil, keeping my slips soft and moisturised too. An all round brilliant lipstick…

In true What Emma Did style, I’ve used the products mentioned above to create a Stila face, incorporating the concealer, foundation, blusher and lipstick. As you can see, my skin is flawless, radiant and glowing, and I literally love how much the shades of concealer/foundation blend into my skin tone beautifully! As for me lips, I have used the darkest shade from the Lip & Cheek palette, with a touch of the lipstick over it to soften slightly.

If I had to round up a favourite product, I would possible say the concealer is my ultimate hero product, as it truly is a skin saving product. I can’t get enough of it’s excellent coverage and ability to perk up and brighten my face with just a couple of strokes. Very happy to now be a Stila girl!
