Beauty: Olivia Hale Makeup at Home Bargains

Bit of a makeup snob? Usually buy Bobbi Brown, MAC and Illamasqua items? Don’t worry – I’m the same. I recently just spent £50 on the latest Charlotte Tilbury Seductive Face Palette, which I couldn’t stop looking at for about a three days after it arrived. We’re all guilty of being makeup snobs.

But even myself, being a freelance makeup artist and beauty blogger and may I add I actually work in the premium beauty industry in PR, has affordable items in my kit. Sometimes, there are makeup items out there which you do not need to pay the Earth for – honestly.

Yes, I agree you should be careful about the ingredients you put onto and into your skin, and sometimes the difference between a luxury makeup brand and a cheap High Street cosmetic brand is huge. But, there are some brands out there which can really surprise you. Ready to hear about by latest discovery?

In the above photos, I’m wearing some makeup products from the super affordable Home Bargain makeup range, Olivia Hale. The items retail from 99p, and when I actually received a huge box of the brand to try, at first thought I figured they must be a new premium brand.

They all come in lovely sleek black and white packaging, but it’s only when you unpack each item and discover the plastic casing they sit in that you start to think that perhaps these items are a little cheaper. And they are indeed – the bronzer and blushers cost around £1.99, yet each one is super pigmented and applies to the skin wonderfully.

As you can see, they retail a soft brown eyebrow pencil, in which I’ve been testing out my brushing through my brows with my brow brush and building up the colour. You do have to apply a couple of times to build up intensity, but it’s super soft and blendable, giving the same type of scope I’ve noticed from eyebrow pencils from Rimmel and Barry M.

They also do nail polishes too in an array of colours, but the below two are my faves… my lovely are these?

So in the images of myself above, I used the primer as my base, and the foundation applied with two layers all over my face. I set my face with Dermablend setting powder (it’s just my go to at the moment) and I used a touch of the Blusher Brick in Pink over the apples of my cheeks.

Yes, I knw what you are thinking – those Blusher Bricks look just like the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks! And yes the do, except the shimmer factor is a little more softer and not as intense. They really do the same type of job as the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks, with perhaps a little more intense application to build up the shimmer affect. But in all honesty, I limit shimmer on my face, apart from where I’d apply highlight at the tops of my cheeks. So these Blusher Bricks are more than ideal for me!

I’m yet to try out the eye shadows, but these two shades below in Boysenberry (the deeper purple) and Walnut Whisper have been added to my bridal makeup kit straight away. I swatched the brown shade (the Walnut Whisper) and it’s a warm shimmery brown shade which would look incredible blended into the crease of bridal eye makeup.

I’ll definitely be trying this on out on my next bridal makeup trial, where as the Boysenberry will be much more ideal for evening occasion eyes. Even a smokey deep purple and grey eye. Ooooh now that’s a look to try!

As most of you know, I’m a lipstick over gloss girl, so when I discovered the light pink lipstick I knew it would be a fantastic shade to apply to bridesmaids. So I used it for 5 bridesmaids lips colours at a wedding the other weekend.

How soft and pretty is it! The perfect bridesmaid shade…

I’m really excited to try out the rest of the range for when I want those cheaper additions to add to my kit. Sure, I’m not saying they rival the quality of your high end brands. Nothing would stop me from using my all time favourites, but I’m really happy to add these additions to my kit and see some nice results…
