Beauty: Natural Beauty with Holland and Barrett

The other week, myself and a handful of Manchester beauty bloggers headed to the stunning Castlefield Rooms for a day spent with Holland and Barrett. The event was in aid of celebrating natural beauty, with each of us learning about make-up and beauty products which are much kinder to us (and our Earth). I for one have always been really keen on checking what I am putting into my skin when it comes to topical beauty and cosmetics. I’ve suffered from breakouts regularly over the years, which means I am a little OCD with ingredients, oils, vitamins and all sorts of properties that can be worked into products.

Upon my arrival, I caught up with some of my lovely blogger buddies over Prosecco, before being treated to a makeover using nothing but mineral make-up. The mineral items were from the Beautiful Movements range at Holland and Barrett, which are all mineral-based and cruelty-free, and are also BUAV and PETA approved. I also found out afterwards that the make-up range is owned by Kimberley Wyatt from the Pussycat Dolls, which I wasn’t aware of before. I was amazed at how amazing the powder form concealer was, working really well as concealing my under eye shadows (I seriously have a problem with them!).

My make-up artist also used some sheer, shimmery brown, bronze and cream eyeshadow powders on my eyelids. These shades created an incredibly ‘wow’ eye-popping look! My blue eyes literally were shining. So many comments from the other bloggers!

After my make-up session, I toured around the little stands and got stuck into learning about all the natural, organic beauty brands on show. One of them was Dr Organics, a brand who pride their products on the fact they exclude the harmful effects of SLS and Parabens in cosmetics. I love the ethics behind this brand, concentrating on creating quality products which deliver, yet only use the finest, organic ingredients. Products really don’t need to use SLS – they literally put this in to create a foam because it’s cheap, giving the impression a product is doing it’s job well. But you don’t have to add cheap and irritable properties in order for a product to do it’s job well.

One of the brands featured products on display was the Morrocan Glow body polish, which is designed as a pre-tanning product. However, it can also be used as a stand alone product as a skin polisher. From using it so far, I can say it’s a super effective exfoliator, promoting sparkling smooth skin from the first use. My skin feels amazing when I use this in the shower! I also picked up The Morrocan Glow self tan too, which is available in 3 shades. I’m currently using the ‘light’ shade due to me being so pale, and so far it’s building up a lovely rich tan which so far seems to be streak-free…

Next up, I discovered the lovely Beauty Kitchen home-made product brand. Now learning about this brand was so insightful for me, as I learnt about the creation of home-made hand exfoliators and creams, simply by combining Himalayan salt with oils. The lady mixed the salt with the brand’s ‘Inspire Me’ Brightening & Toning bath oil, showing me how quick and easy it was to make a nourishing hand scrub. My hands felt ridiculously soft. After having a little browse at their products, I’m genuinely impressed with the Glasgow-based company, who pride themselves on being 100% natural and 100% affordable. They stock the nicest of gift sets, which make ideal present ideas for friends who may be interested in natural skincare.

After learning all about the lovely natural, mineral and organic beauty brands, it was time for a spot of lunch at the gorgeous venue. We were treated to the yummiest selection of skewers, sandwiches, salads and potatoes with fish, veggies and meats, whilst discussing all things beauty…

I managed to take home with me the mineral concealer from Beautiful Movements, which I tried out at the event, and so far I’m loving the results. It’s so light and sheer, yet provides excellent coverage. I’ve added it to my dark circles and blemishes after my foundation for the photo below…
