Beauty: Make-up Masterclass with WhatEmmaDid & House of Fraser

Usually the Saturday shopper myself, I ended up doing something slightly different with my weekend as I held a make-up masterclass event at Manchester’s House of Fraser. For those who don’t know, as well as being a beauty blogger, I am also a trained make-up artist, and in celebration of House of Fraser’s Beauty Confidential event, I held three little make-up classes in Smokey Eyes, Contouring and The Perfect Foundation for the Saturday shoppers.

The Beauty Confidential event at HOF runs until April 19th; if you purchase your favourite beauty product, you receive £10 one of House of Frasers favourite beauty products. You can see the full list here over at my previous post. You will see there are some amazing hero products included, such as one of my personal favourites Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation.

Setting up my make-up station in between the MAC counter and the Kiehls counter, myself and my WhatEmmaDid team (huge thanks to Lucy, Alison, and of course, my Mum!) offered complimentary fizz and cupcakes for all the visitors who stopped by to learn my tips and tricks. I started with a smokey eye demonstration, before leading into applying foundation and contouring the face. I shared various bits of advice, answered questions and discussed the best products and tools to use to achieve the best looks.

Some of the tips I shared on the day are compiled below, just a couple of beauty and make-up pointers you may like to remember and use in the future…

1. When applying foundation, always apply in downwards strokes. This is so that the foundation glides on in the direction of the hairs on your cheeks. Everyone has small hairs all over there face, and your face make-up will always look smoother if you apply with this in mind.

2. Before you apply your foundation, pout your lips out into the ‘kissing face’ – this makes the hollow part of your cheeks stand out so you can see the most shadowed parts. This is wear your bronzer needs to sit to create the best facial shaping.

3. To finish off the bronzer look, smile your widest smiles and brush a fresh shimmery peachy pink shade on the fleshiest parts of the cheeks (the apples). This finishes off the face and add’s a little ‘flushed’ look, which promotes youthfulness and radiance. Benefits Coralista is a nice option.

4. If you can’t find your eyebrow brush or accidentally lose yours – an old toothbrush does just as good as job and brushing your brows into shape, taming any strays and creating a nice neat finish.

5. Contouring isn’t just about your cheeks – slim down a round, square or heart shape face by contouring the jawline and under the chin. By adding a subtle sweeping of bronzer along the jawline, you can create a more oval shape, and by ensuring under the chin is shaded with bronzer, you can create the illusion of a much less obvious double chin!

The below looks are created by using a range of the following products, all from House of Fraser, and these are products I swear by in my make-up kit: MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation, bareMinerals Get Ready Kit, Benefit FakeUp Concealer, bareMinerals Touch Up Veil Powder, MAC Blusher in Gingerly, YSL Touche Eclat, Urban Decay Naked Eyeshadow Palette, Lancome Hynose Mascara and MAC Eeyebrow pencil in Lingering.

The above is just simply concealing and applying foundation to showcase a fresh face – no eyebrow or eyeshadow make-up.

It’s hard to find educated people in this particular subject, but you sound like you know what you’re talking about!
    Thanks
