I’ve seen a lot of hype and excitement around iS Clinical’s Active Serum– over the past year especially. As a Beauty Editor during my day job, I remember having a call with the company sometime in 2016, and being wowed at how amazing this product in particular sounded. I love a good serum that does a bit of everything, and this plant based serum sounded like it does just that.
In a nutshell, its designed to help reduce fine lines, reduce wrinkles, improve the quality and texture of your skin and reduce the frequency of blemishes or acne. So for me, a 31 year old who still gets breakouts, has red marks from previous cases, and also needs to look after aging skin and hydration, it sounded right up my street.
When the opportunity came to review it, I of course jumped.
Overall, it’s supposed to help increase the quality of your skin and act as a supplement to an existing skin care product line, and its not cheap. A 30 ml will set you back around £69.99 from most skincare retailers.
Firstly, lets look at some of the ingredients:
- Sugar cane extract (a natural source of glycolic acid). Glycolic acid helps exfoliate the skin and slough off dead skin cells making the skin look fresh and new
- White willow bark extract (a natural source of salicylic acid). Salycylic acid helps renew the skin and reduce the size of your pores
- Bilberry extract (a natural source of lactic acid). Lactic acid helps nourish and moisturize the skin and prevent breakouts
- Arbutin & Mushroom extract (natural skin lighteners and brighteners). These products naturally inhibit melanin in your cells to reduce hyperpigmentation and even out the color of the skin.
I noticed when I first applied this serum, I got that tingling sensation on my face, which is fine because that feeling doesn’t bother me, I kind of see it that the product is really working. But for those with sensitive skin, it might be a little overwhelming, so if you’re prone to redness and very sensitive skin, just be cautious of this. My skin can go a little red sometimes when I apply products with AHA’s and BHA’s, usually face masks, but I found it didn’t happen with this product (perhaps it did on the first go, but I’ve been using it now for almost 3 months and no redness on application…)
My main concerns are fading red marks and pigmentation from previous breakouts and sun damage, as I always feel like my skin never looks clear, even when I don’t have any active spots. I’d say the serum was a little bit of a slow starter, but now at almost 3 months in, the majority of congestion in the form of red marks and scars have lightly faded, giving my complexion a much more even finish.
The biggest improvement was on active acne – since using this serum, those pesky large spots that used to regularly crop up on my jaw have reduced more than 50% I’d say. I apply the serum straight after cleansing at night, and I leave it to soak in for a good 10 minutes before applying a night cream. I always wake up with fresh, smooth, hydrated skin, so despite its active ingredients, I don’t experience any drying out of the skin.
I’ve experienced no problems with this product at all, and only have positives to report back, hence this review today. It is expensive, so I try to use 2 drops on my whole face each evening, to make it last as long as possible.
I’ll report back after more continued use!
