Years ago, I used to buy clip-in hair extensions for thickness and length on a regular basis. With hair extensions, I just used to try and colour match my natural colour which sits underneath my hair (which I never colour), trim them myself and then apply heat to them for waving or straightening. The problem is, I never used to buy quality, and would pick up a pack for £24.99 that I found matched my colour the most, and within three months, they would represent a pack of rats tails that have been frazzled from the heat and evolved into a tatty mess.
I was recently introduced to Studio Seven 50 – a salon professional luxury hair extension service currently situated in Manchester Arndale outside Clas Ohlson. From looking at their website, I found out that they approach hair extensions with a different view: they should be of the best quality, providing you with clip-in hair extensions that look and feel as natural as your own hair. Every strand of hair they use in their extensions are 100% remis (also known as ‘remy’). This means the hair is gathered with the roots at the top and the ends at the bottom, aligning the hair to be cuticle correct. This way, hair always falls naturally to it’s best and most natural appearance and feel. So I was booked in to meet Dee, the Director of Studio Seven 50, to have some hair extensions created and designed for me…
First of all, I was blown away by Dee’s passion and love for providing people with the best quality extensions. She frst carried out an analysis of my hair and colour matched perfectly, mixing a blend of dark blonde, and ash blonde and my natural brown colour so that the hair would blend in perfectly, representing an extension of my own hair. Which is what it is all about, right? It felt really nice to have someone custom make my extensions, ensuring I would be receiving the most personalised and suitable fit for me. My head measurements were taken too – which I had also never thought about before – but I am fairly petite so I do usually have to cut up the extensions I buy and thus start to ruin them. Well none of that this time – I was about to own a full head of customised extensions ideal for me, from the best quality of hair from India. No acid treatments are applied to hair, and it is completely ‘virgin’.
Once the colours were mixed and blended, my measurements were worked up into clips, and a set of hair extensions were created, Dee blow dried the hair and pinned them to style them, giving the hair some body and a touch of wave. The same was done to my own hair, and before I know it, the extensions are clipped across my head neatly and I am presented with a fuller, thicker, bouncy head of hair. The best thing is, I run my hands through the hair and I can’t feel which is my own hair and which belongs to Studio Seven 50 – it all feels the same – completely natural. I look in the mirror and absolutely love the transformation – I am especially poor at putting in instant clip-in extensions, but these were popped in to a correct positioning meaning that no clips were on show, and all the hair flowed down to provide a longer length, a thicker feel, and just an overall more impressive appearance.
The only problem I had was thinking how on Earth would I re-create this look myself after the look applied to me was just perfection! Luckily, Studio Seven 50 offer a styling service. When you purchase hair extensions from the brand, you can book in to have them styled to your desired hair style if you struggle to get that movie star professional look yourself at home. So that is exactly what I did yesterday when I had my newest boutique photoshoot for my A/W party dresses! I was shooting at Manchester House in Manchester’s Spinningfields at 12 midday, therefore I booked in with Style Director Dee and had my extensions clipped in again and blown to a bouncy, light waved look.
The brand are so passionate about their products, and it was really inspirational to talk to Dee about the brand and to learn about the important of good quality hair extensions. Never again will I slip into my old nasty habits of buying cheap, dyed and treated extensions from cheaper shops, only to be left with a tangled up set of extensions I end up throwing away after a number of months. I know that my hair from Studio Seven 50 is going to last me a long long time, and I am completely in love with it!
Hopefully, my days of sporting fine, flyaway, lifeless hair are over. If you are looking for a hair update or want to explore hair extensions in more detail, I’d really recommend doing it properly and checking out the brand if you live in or around Manchester. Their website is here, and I am an extremely happy customer!
A huge thank you to Studio Seven 50…
