If you haven’t yet heard about Benefit’s Bad Gal Bang Mascara launch…well, where have you been?!
There’s been a lot of noise around this exciting launch, so much so that I thought I would leave my own personal review of Benefit’s Bad Gal Bang Mascara until after the hype had calmed down a bit.
There have been soooooo many people rushing to Instagram and YouTube to do before’s and after’s, so I thought I’ll just weigh it up in my own time, and once I’ve formed a solid opinion on it, I’ll post about it.
So here goes!…
This new, highly anticipated mascara launch arrived on my desk a few weeks ago. The PR campaign has been very ‘out of space’ focused, as Benefit talk about its formula enriched with aero-particles – ‘a super light technology derived from space technology‘ – to give volume and a promise of 36-hour wear.
Wow – I was keen to scope this one out asap.
It’s a mascara that aims to provide the best results across not just one category, but three: length, volume, and lift. First things first – the packaging is rather funky. It’s black rubber type tube with an edgy lid and bold pink lettering looks sassy and stylish, and I expected nothing less from Benefit, who are basically the queens of sassy cosmetics.
When I opened it up for the first time I noticed that this mascara has a plastic bristle brush. That didn’t bother me, as the brush is also longer than most mascaras I’ve ever tried and is very flexible with a slight bend to it, which is what helps it reach from root-to-tip and corner-to-corner.
Stepping aside from all the space talk, I tried this out on eyelashes that hadn’t worn mascara for around 2-3 days due to having a real bad cold, and I was looking purely at instant results. And you what, after all the hype, I actually saw the big deal. This mascara delivered on all three categories listed above (volume, length, lift) immediately, and I was reeeeally impressed from the first use.
Not only do I love how it has a blacker than black formula, but I feel like it gave a dramatic look to my lashes after just one coat, without weighing down my lashes and making them feel crusty. I also have incredibly straight eyelashes which don’t tend to curl up easily, but after applying this, I spied a little lift amongst my lashes which lasted a good few hours.
Not sure I would say 36 hours (well, I removed it after 10 hours as I didn’t want to sleep in it!) but wow – I was really impressed with the results.
It costs £21.50 from various beauty retailers including Cult Beauty, which is slightly pricey, but the Lancome mascaras I keep in my professional makeup artistry kit cost the higher end of £25-£30, and I’d say it’s just as great as those. It just has cooler packaging!
